CNC Machining

How can we serve you?

From prototype through production, Wisconsin Metal Parts’ CNC machining services feature personalized customer service for made-to-order parts and components.

We offer up to 5-axis vertical CNC, 4-axis horizontal CNC, 10-axis sub-spindle turning and live tool CNC turning centers. From castings & extrusions to billet, we can help find a customized solution to your production needs regardless of volumes. Deburring, leak testing and part washing are secondary operations we perform in-house and we will manage any painting or plating that is required.

This department does stand-alone CNC work for our customers and also works in conjunction with our Stamping and Fabrication departments to do secondary operations and contributes to our assembly services.

Cyber security is approved to NIST SP800-171 so your export restricted (ITAR) files are always secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CNC Machining?

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machining is when pre-programmed computer software controls the movement of tools in machinery. There are many tools available for CNC machines, allowing for a wide range of processes, features and finishes for any given project. These tools remove layers of a material from a stock piece and produces a uniquely designed part. This includes processes like drilling, milling, turning, grinding and more. The CNC process is effective for a wide range of materials and can be automated, allowing for high precision and accuracy. CNC Machining is considered a subtractive manufacturing process, since material is removed from the stock piece. CNC is a great option for many manufacturers looking for consistency and quality.

Typically, we work with castings like aluminum, zinc, steel, and stainless steel. We also work from billet in aluminum, steel, stainless, copper, brass, bronze, tool steels, extrusions and machine some plastics.

Our lead time is an average of 3-4 weeks, but times depend on the complexity of the parts, subcontracting and material availability. We can give you a better delivery estimate if we can see a part drawing first.

Blanket orders are also an option that allow us to plan and work ahead so we can get the parts to you exactly when you need them. Blanket orders can also cut costs by reducing setup times and material costs.

Production orders can range from 10 -10,000 pieces. Smaller prototyping orders can be made in our tool room if it is a good fit for both parties.

Depending on the application, we can machine to part tolerances of +- .0005 inch

There are many ways to make a single part. Send us your drawings and Wisconsin Metal Parts can find you the most cost-effective way to make your part with our many capabilities.

Our variety of machines include Vertical and Horizontal CNC mills, Sub-Spindle and CNC turning centers with live tooling.

We have up to 5-axis capabilities

Milling – Our largest machine travel is 34 x 64”

Turning – 3” through spindle capacity

The main cost driver is setup time. Having blanket orders in place that allow us to minimize setups is one way to help control those costs. Proper tolerancing is another factor. Asking for tight tolerances to be held only where they are needed will also help control costing.
