Clamp, Prototype to Production

Clamp, Prototype to Production

This clamp project started off needing a few R&D test samples made with WMPI’s fiber laser and brake press. After several design changes, a final production part was determined. These development changes only required some laser programming changes by WMPI, with no tooling costs. We now continue to run these parts in our laser/brake as the volumes ramp up. WMPI is now building a progressive stamping die at our facility, and these parts will change over to a stamping as soon as that tool completes PPAP. Our customer will see a significant price decrease once we start running higher volumes in the progressive stamping tool. This is a great example of how WMPI can cost-effectively help launch a new product by working closely with our customer’s engineering team early in the project, and by having multiple equipment options available in-house.
