Brass Timing Wheels

Brass Timing Wheels

A brass timing wheel was needed by a defense contractor and they turned to Wisconsin Metal Parts to handle this important die stamping project. These wheels required us to build the Class A, fully sensored, progressive stamping dies. The stamping process runs at 600 strokes per minute. The timing wheel measured .34” in diameter and was .018” thick. We maintained manufacturing tolerances of.005” for true position, .0015” for total runout, and hold a 1.33 Cpk over millions of parts. In-process inspections were performed using our Smart Scope Video Measuring Machine to make sure parts were being made to print. As part of a highly regulated munitions application, final testing of this part was done after the assembly was complete. This required us to lot control all production parts and hold tolerances tighter than the part print called out to insure the final assembly would not fail. Our engineering team worked hard along with our customer to put a solid quality and production process plan in place to run these mission critical parts. We have succeeded where others had failed. Our customer benefits.
